Conjunctivitis
1 year ago 423Conjunctivitis is commonly known as ‘Pink Eye’ or Red Eye’.
It is an inflammation or infection of the transparent layer of tissue (Conjunctiva) that lines your eyelid
and covers the white part of your eyeball. The blood vessels become more prominent and cause the eye
to appear pink or red.
It may be caused by infection, toxins, a blocked tear duct in children, allergies or immune reactions
etc. It is important to understand, that although most cases are mild and easily treatable, causes may
vary. Hence it is important to see an eye specialist for a proper evaluation and appropriate treatment.
Also, infectious conjunctivitis is highly contagious. Hence, appropriate precautions are a must.
Conjunctivitis commonly doesn’t affect vision, but exceptions are there. At times it may follow a more
prolonged course and involve the cornea also. One must get proper check-up done by an
ophthalmologist rather than trying over-the-counter medications, since those may cause more harm than good.
