Cataract

1 year ago 472

Cataract is clouding of the clear lens of the eye, which causes visual symptoms. It usually progresses gradually over months. May cause symptoms like glare, blurring of vision, eye strain and watering, haloes around light, difficulty in seeing in dim light etc. Cataract may affect one or both eyes, also may affect both eyes differently. While age-related or senile cataract, is the most common type, other causes include trauma, radiation exposure, due to certain medications or in association with other systemic diseases. In some early cataracts, glasses may help improve vision. However most patients with cataract need a proper examination, and surgery is the mainstay of treatment. Cataract surgery involves removal of the opacified lens matter from the eye and replacing it with an artificial lens of appropriate power.
