1 year ago 467

Glaucoma refers to a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve head and may lead to decrease in the person’s field of vision, and eventual blindness. It is usually due to high pressures inside the eye and is an important cause of blindness among the elderly. If left undetected or untreated, glaucoma is mostly a progressive condition, eventually causing absolute vision loss. Symptoms include, progressive loss of peripheral vision, dull aching headache, eye pain/ heaviness, redness, coloured haloes around light sources etc. Commonly, it is a silent sight thief, causing little or no symptoms until much later. Rarely, acute attack may present as severe eye pain, headache, watery red eye, nausea and vomiting.
